A fun and accessible choir

Since the choir was founded in September 2021, we have engaged with 70 young people in our choir programmes and delivered workshops to 400 local children.

We strive to ensure that our choir reflects the diverse community which surrounds St Barnabas and we're proud to say that our choir members come from a vast mix of cultural backgrounds, which includes Congolese, Indian, Greek, Swedish, Australian, American, South African and Chinese.

The ‘Jericho Youth Choir’ was launched to engage local children and teenagers in fun and accessible music activities which encourage creativity, teamwork and community engagement. The Jericho Youth Choir has two strands: Juniors and Seniors.

The Junior section, for 7 to 11 year olds, is currently 20 strong and over the past few months has attracted 28 children amongst its membership. Alongside the Junior section the Director of the JYC, Rachel Maby has run recruitment singing workshops in three local primary schools – St Barnabas Primary School, Wolvercote Primary School and Cutteslowe Primary school.

The Senior Section of the choir is currently made up of students from Cherwell School and Bartholomew School, but any teenager is welcome to join.

JYC Juniors (ages 7-11)

JYC Juniors is a FREE weekly choir open to boys and girls living in Oxfordshire. The choir is for those both new to singing and more confident singers. Children have the opportunity to make new friends and learn a variety of music from Disney classics to Classical. Children gain a core understanding of healthy vocal technique, high-quality ensemble singing and have the chance to perform in an end of term concert with professional musicians at our host venue, St Barnabas Church in Jericho.
